What is the difference between Winnebago and Itasca?

As you are shopping for a pre-owned RV, 2017 or older, you may notice that some Winnebago Industries models are badged Itasca, and some Winnebago. You may be asking yourself, what is the difference between Winnebago and Itasca?

Winnebago Industries used to run a dual line motorized RV dealer network, with the Winnebago and Itasca brands. This was much like the light duty auto manufacturers (i.e. Chevrolet vs GMC, Dodge vs Chrysler etc.) At that time, nearly all Winnebago dealerships were single point dealerships offering only Winnebago or Itasca. At Lichtsinn RV we were one of the few dual line dealerships in the country, offering the entire Winnebago and Itasca lineups so were well versed in the difference between these two brands.

Winnebago and Itasca motorized RVs were produced on the same line by the same people just one mile south of our dealership in Forest City, Iowa. When Winnebago Industries was still producing both of these lines, each line had a “twin” in the alternate line. For instance, the Winnebago View was a twin to the Itasca Navion, the Winnebago Vista was a twin to the Itasca Sunstar, the Winnebago Sightseer was a twin to the Itasca Sunova etc.. Depending on the model year, sometimes these twins were identical with the exception of the name on the side of the coach, especially in the latter years of the Itasca brand. Certain model years the only difference between Winnebago and Itasca was the interior color pallete and exterior color scheme options. Earlier on, while the floorplans in the twins were identical, certain features were not. For a period Itasca was considered a more “deluxe” version, with some features standard on the Itasca version that were considered upgrades in the Winnebago version.
