Founded in 1958, “Winnebago” became a household word when the Company became the first RV manufacturer to build motorhomes in an automotive-style assembly line system. Roughly six decades later that tradition of innovation has continued. A common question we receive is “where are Winnebago Motorhomes made?” Being the closest dealer to the Winnebago Industries Motorhome Manufacturing Facility, we can answer this for you a little more intimately than most.
The main Winnebago Motorhome production plant is located in Forest City, Iowa, just south of the Minnesota border. Lichtsinn RV is just 1 mile down the road from the Winnebago Forest City plant location. This is the original Winnebago plant and considerably larger than the other 2 Winnebago manufacturing plants that have been added over the years.
The Forest City Winnebago Campus is approximately 60 acres large and is one of the most technologically advanced RV manufacturing facilities in existence. The campus houses production facilities including the Stitchcraft Facility where RV chairs, windows, valances, sofas and other innovative custom furniture pieces exclusive to Winnebago are built. The Chassis Weld Facility is where the raw chassis is prepared to become a home on wheels and the front cab and basement storage are added to Class A and Class C motorhomes. The Forest City Campus is also home to Big Bertha, the name of the main production area on the Forest City Campus. Big Bertha is equivalent in length to three football fields.
The Forest City Campus is also home to Winnebago Customer Service and the Winnebago Visitors Center which is open to the public and chronicles the Company’s 64-year history. Winnebago has 2 smaller production facilities as well. One is located in Lake Mills, Iowa just 15 miles north of Lichtsinn RV. Select Class B Campervan models are built in the Lake Mills location. Winnebago does not currently have scheduled tour hours for this plant. The 2nd smaller manufacturing plant is located in Charles City, Iowa which is approximately 60 miles from Lichtsinn RV.
Lichtsinn RV is located just 1 mile from Winnebago Industries, in Forest City, Iowa. New Winnebago Motorhomes purchased from Lichtsinn RV have no delivery miles or tow car stress on them. We do not use delivery services like other dealers in which drivers live in the RV during transportation. No one will eat, drink, or live in your new investment or tow their own personal car with it during the crucial engine break-in period.
