Winnebago has always been known for their exceptional quality standards and success with their many innovations. Many other RV manufacturers attempt to replicate this level of quality but consistently fall short. Because of this, we are often asked for specific differences between two RV models that may have a similar floorplan or general appearance. One such example includes the Winnebago Vista and Winnebago Sunstar 33K floorplan and the Jayco Precept 34B and 34G floorplans.
Both of these coaches are the optimum size for beginner Class A owners or those who simply don’t want a 45-foot RV. Mid-size coaches offer many benefits, including ease of travel and more parking options at campgrounds. Despite the benefits of these mid-size RVs, there are many quality standards that are lacking in the Jayco Precept.
The Winnebago Vista and the Winnebago Sunstar are identical with the exception of the name on the side of the coach. For purposes of this comparison we will refer to the Vista however, the details apply to the Sunstar 33K as well.

CHASSIS
Both the Winnebago Vista and Jayco Precept are built on the reliable Ford F53 chassis. With 7.3L PFI V8 engine, TorqShift 6-speed automatic transmission with overdrive and tow haul mode, the Ford F53 promises power that will keep your adventures on the move.
INTERIOR
In terms of the interior design of these two coaches, both the Vista and Precept feature all-new, stylized elements. Many of the adornments including trim, backsplash, hardware etc. inside the Precept are known to collapse, sag, or fall off completely due to poor quality standards. This is not an issue with the 33K floorplan which is an example of how Winnebago’s quality standards cover features both big and small, from the 1-piece fiberglass roof to the Corian countertops and backsplash with tile inlay found in the galley of the 33K.
Winnebago is also known for optimizing the living space in its floorplans, and the Vista 33K is no exception. With swivel cab seats located directly next to the dinette and sofa (with the optional substitution of theater seats), making the lounge area ideal for engaging with the entire family or your guests. However, Jayco did not keep this thought in mind when arranging both the Precept 34B and 34G. Both floorplans have the entry directly behind the passenger cab seat. For the 34G floorplan, this disrupts interacting with your guests from the cab area. The 34B floorplan layout is even less efficient, as the dinette is distant from the cab seats because of the placement of the kitchen pantry while the L-shaped sofa is situated in a completely separate location as the rest of the seating areas making the cab seats inaccessible to the rest of the living area.
BATHROOM
Another detail that demonstrates great use of space and sets the Vista 33K apart from the Precept 34B and 34G is the addition of a guest bathroom mid-coach. Although the two Precept floorplans are nearly two-feet longer than the Vista 33K, making them less maneuverable for a mid-size coach, the efficiency of design demonstrated by Winnebago once again sets them apart from the competition. Both the Precept 34B and 34G include only a single bathroom mid-coach eliminating privacy from guests. The 34B floorplan also has the shower separate from the toilet and sink.
BEDROOM
The Vista 33K and Precept 34B and 34G each include a king sized walkaround bed in the rear bedroom. However, it is easy to notice that the Vista has significantly more space from the end of the bed to the wardrobe, allowing easy access to the full-bath in the rear of the coach. This is because the driver side of the bedroom is included in the slideout with the kitchen and dinette while the bed area has its own slideout as well. In both the Precept 34B and 34G, the bedroom includes only one slideout. In the 34B floorplan, the bed has a slideout while the 34G floorplan has only the wardrobe included in a slideout.
PLUMBING
The efficient use of space is one of the most important things to consider when designing and manufacturing an RV. This is an easy thing to see from the inside of an RV, but what about the use of space in the areas that you can’t see? Another of Winnebago’s defining features is the fact that the holding tanks in all of their RVs are custom built in-house to fit each specific floorplan to maximize volume capacities. This is demonstrated best when comparing the holding tanks of the Winnebago Vista 33K with the Jayco Precept 34B and 34G. For both Precept floorplans, the gray waste tank capacity is 40 gal. while the black waste tank capacity is 40 gal. in the 34B floorplan and 50 gal. in the 34G floorplan. The Vista 33K however, boasts a gray waste holding tank capacity of a whopping 102 gal. and a black waste holding tank of 75 gal. This means that you can spend significantly longer on the road without having to plan around frequently dumping the tanks.
The Winnebago Vista Class A gas coach is an excellent example of Winnebago’s dedication to quality and innovation. With a large lounge area, fully equipped galley, and stylish interior details, the Winnebago Vista and Winnebago Sunstar are an ideal home away from home.
